King Of The Wild Frontier

Couldn't wait for a bowl of cheerios served up in this Davey Crockett bowl on Saturday mornings, along with Sky King, Roy Rogers, Deputy Dawg, and Tom Terrific, and that flying squiril, Rocky...to name a few of my TV buds. Cereal was the comfort food of all kids before the next Saturday adventure! We loved to "belong"...to be attached to our Television shows...TV was a magical medium...and our personal "stuff" was proof of our good standing...

What are your memories of Saturday mornings?

Forbes Field 1960

My dad and I went to a weeknight game, my first ever. I'll never forget the awestruck feeling of seeing the "green" grass under the lights as we reached the top of the ramp a caught the first glimse of the field. (My experience with The Bucs up til then had been confined to at 20 inch black and white TV). My dad had a hold of my hand and I remember thinking how much I loved him for giving me this moment alone with him.

We didn't have much money, but I recall him asking me if I wanted a hot dog...cotton candy...and later, a souvenir pennant!

Later that season...the Pirates won the The World Series with that wonderful Mazeroski slam! I watched it at home on the b&w...but in my head it was all in living color!
